Serving in Youth Guidance in Project Serve had brought to me a broader perspective of the world around me and a greater sense of empathy for the marginalized youths of the society.
It also brought to me the realization that human efforts in helping youth-at-risk can only reach a certain limit. True regeneration and change can only come with reconciliation with God, their Creator.
Through Project Serve I was drawn nearer to God as I faced difficulties daily in my attempts to engage young people who came from backgrounds that are so vastly different from mine. Also, I was impacted by the inspiring lives of the supervisors through observing the way they seek after God, love the youths they come in with contact and pray for them constantly. The perseverance and long-suffering attitudes in service to our Lord is also something that I hope to learn in time to come.
I thank the Lord for the enrichment that Project Serve had brought to my relationship with Him. Having been constantly challenged to engage youths confidently, bring the gospel to the lost and seek Him through His word, I emerged from YG with a greater understanding of God and His Love even for the seemingly unloved. The relationships forged whether with fellow project servants, supervisors or youths-at-risk had been indescribably rewarding, making the experience undoubtedly more colorful and memorableDerRick In the course of my early teenage years, being a distinct witness to Christ was something which seemed too difficult. Having finished my NS, I was eager to make every moment count for the Lord as I waited for my university education to begin. By God’s grace and guidance, I committed my life to Project Serve (Jan-Mar 2007) with the Performing Arts Ministry in SYFC.
Having grown up in a church, I was contented to believe in Jesus Christ and to serve Him as best as I thought I could. God however taught me, through teachings in Project Serve, that being a distinct witness to Christ demands much more of me. I was challenged to understand God and His commands better, and to view the charge to preach the gospel as a mission in life. (2 Tim 4:2)
To be honest, it took a while to accept these teachings not because I did not believe them but due to my incomplete repentance. To change my lifestyle because God demanded it of me was very challenging for me. I recognized that to do the work of an evangelist, I had to change. It was not easy but throughout I could see the grace of God working in me, even right now. He moulded me by giving me correct perspectives on how I should be thinking and also helped me get my priorities right in life.
Though the path of serving God is often filled with thorns and thistles, serving as part of a group helped me see that I am not alone. Looking at how God works in our lives, certainly He does give abundant grace and everything we need for godly life. Project serve was a starting point for me to understand, apply and experience first hand a life of serving God full time, which never ends.

Being involved in SYFC has changed a lot of my perspectives, especially in the area of evangelism. One of the most memorable and fruitful experience I ever had was during a 3-day mission trip to Johor Bahru(JB) with the SAM project servants and staff. I was initially quite disappointed that the mission trip to Indonesia was cancelled as Indonesia is my homeland. Furthermore, when I was told that we had to speak Chinese for the JB mission trip, I thought negatively about it as Chinese is the language that I have always been struggling with. However, God taught me an important lesson during the trip and I benefited richly from it.
The focus of the trip mainly was to assist the staff at MYFC as they lacked in manpower to publicize their upcoming evangelistic event. On the first day of the trip while we were doing our field work, I was extremely nervous. We were supposed to publicize for the event to students and to get their contact numbers. I was totally lost for words when I approached the students and I did not manage to get any contacts that day. I was quite discouraged until the second day, I decided to have faith and to trust
that God will guide my speech. God showed me that He is faithful. As I was doing the field work, I felt this awesome sense of joy and excitement. My friend and I were able to approach many students and we managed to get their contact numbers.
Surprisingly, for the very first time Chinese words just flowed out of my mouth so naturally like never before. These are just glimpses of the experiences that I went through as a project servant; there are still many experiences and lessons that I wish I could share more.
